NorCal Beauty Expo 2019

NorCal Beauty Expo 2019

Hey guys!

So Facebook suggested an event for me a few weeks ago and all I did was click “interested” and move on. The closer it came to time the more I saw it pop up: The NorCal Beauty Expo at the Win- River Casino. Lucky for me that is only a few miles down the road! And it was free to enter and walk around. Also air conditioning.. its so hot here and my apartment gets pretty toasty.

I debated going this morning because I was feeling pretty lazy, but one of my girlfriends encouraged me to get out.

I’m glad I did. It was an enjoyable experience. The venue was small and there weren’t a million vendors, but it was plenty busy and lots to see. There were classes you could attend if you were a professional and a hair show. The only expo I have been to is the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim and its HUGE. (if you get a chance to attend…DO IT, it is amazing and like Disneyland for health…plus BAGS of samples) Its in the same place they hold NAMM. So I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one. In reality it was similar just tiny in comparison. I got a swag bag as I entered (a reusable bag with the casino spa logo and a magazine and flyer) and I picked up cards and samples as I wandered. Mostly it was local business repping the brands they sell or services they offer. It was a great way to meet people and see who is who in the local salons. I’m new to town so I have no idea where to go for hair and nails.

I tried Bang energy for the first time at the vitamin booth… Unicorn whatever tastes gross, but I’m on board with energy that isn’t full of garbage. Well the woman said its not, but I’ll have to do more research. I played in some cheap jewelry and spoke with a woman about eyelash extensions. I found a hair care line I would like to try when money isn’t so tight, (I say this and I totally ended up buying something at another booth *insert eyeroll). The line is called Monat and Stephanie who was telling me about it was just lovely. They aren’t made with a lot of garbage ingredients and they have different things to fulfill all the different needs. Fingers crossed I win the giveaway haha

If anyone has tried it or uses it let me know! I would love to hear what you think.

I stumbled upon a local small business started by a mom and daughter called Siren. Everything is made with organic ingredients, its vegan, and food grade. The line is small with only four products, but they’re pretty awesome. There are three different scrubs and one bath salt. Y’all… they not only smell amazing, but the scrub works. She did one had and used a rose to wipe the scrub off (YES IT WAS A GODDESS EXPERIENCE THANK YOU MA’AM) which left my hand visibly brighter and healthier feeling and looking. I was sold. I’m a weak human. Anyways they had a pretty good deal running for the expo so I picked up the Rise scrub and the Restore salts. http://www.sirenscrub.com

They all smelled amazing, but I decided with summer coming I wanted the invigorating peppermint.

expo purchase

I picked up some sampled from the Rodan + Fields girl.. these people made Proactive. They have since sold that line and are now pursuing new skincare lines. I don’t really have an opinion on them since I haven’t used them yet nor am I up whats in them. But I’m here to try it out!

proactive people

Glowing seemed to be a theme because I picked up another skincare sample set with a similar name haha

sample

I know nothing about this one and I also have no opinion. They are having a nice Mother’s Day facial special so…maybe I’ll treat my stepmom haha

I’ll let y’all know what I think of the samples soon!

I had a really fun time and I look forward to popping in next year.

I need a beauty fix

I need a beauty fix

Heeeyyyy guys

So I’m on an extreme budget now. Like I don’t know how I’m gonna make it budget.

I don’t say this to be a downer haha I know it’ll work out, but I’m not able to really purchase new products at the moment. I NEED MY BEAUTY FIX *insert crying face*

I did give in and buy another bottle of Elf foundation – I’m out and need to cover my now acne covered face…I also need to lay off the dairy. Plus I’m sweating and wearing a lot of sunscreen so….my skin is pissed.

But that’s only $6 so I guess it’s not too bad. I also splurged and grabbed a $1.97 que bella, peel off, face mask. It’s currently drying on my face. I like their masks even if they aren’t the best things in the world I could be putting on my face.

I ran out of my Fourth Ray clear skin toner stuff so I took my giant bottle of witch hazel that my step-mom “gifted” me. And dumped it and some essential oils into a the old Fourth Ray bottle. Gotta do what ya gotta do.

I’m rationing my face oil too.

Ok now real question! What face wash do y’all recommend? I am almost out and I will need to replace it soonish. I need one that will wash makeup off and be gentle and cruelty free! I’m open to suggestions! Pleeeeeaaassseeee

Check out my reaction to the face mask on my instagram story! @katiedidit26

There will be peeling off sounds! haha

Mini Update

Mini Update

HEEEELLLOOOOOOO!!!!

Sorry I’ve been neglectful. I finally got a job offer and am now scrambling to get a place to live since it requires moving. I’m super excited, but also terrified hahaha

OK, so I’ll be a little in and out here because of this, but I’ll try not to fall off the face of the earth.

I went ahead and tried to apply the ELF foundation, I purchased previously, with a foundation brush. I have not had great luck in the past with using a brush – Kat Von D was really hard for me to get in with a brush and the Fenty I think I was too afraid to go for it with one. Don’t yell at me about Kat Von D…..I had no idea there was so much BS flying around her. AND her products have seemed pretty solid *insert shrug here* I actually never go into the companies and back stories of makeup before…I just took joy in trying new stuff. Of course now that I am older I actually try and pay attention.

The ELF foundation applied SO well with a brush. I used a BH Cosmetics foundation brush I’ve had for some time. I was wary cause the brush seemed small, but no problem at all. So that is another plus in the ELF bank. It is a little sheer though BUT that could also be because I don’t use a ton and I might have a shade too light/pink. I’m 26 and STILL trying to figure out how to pick a foundation shade haha

ALSO! Thank you all so much for reading 🙂

Kora Organics

Kora Organics

IMG_4504What is in a glow?

Well, for me, it is a mix of: Staying hydrated, eating clean, avoiding dairy and sugar, trying to get enough sleep, with hazel, and last but NOT least – Kora Organics Noni Glow oil.

I’ve struggled with loving my skin for a long time. My stepmom always told me I had good skin, but as a pimple covered, overweight, young teen, I did not believe her. With my hormones raging, never washing my face, not drinking enough water, and drinking whole milk, I had a pimple or six all the time. Of course looking back I know why I did and I know that my pimples were nothing compared to those of my friends. Oh well haha

I def had a subscription to ProActive…that stuff works! If you use it and don’t eat dairy…. hahaha I’m afraid of what might actually be in it now – the smell was so strong and it burned. I don’t think I would use it now.

At twenty-six I’ve embraced my skin and I just shake it off when a stray blemish or two pops up. I know dang well I ate that cheese! Or it is my time of the month- coming off years of birth control I am seeing a few more than I normally would. I feel it is worth it though, I feel better in general now.

I began to start seeing it differently when I was around twenty-two. At that point in my life I was sticking to the Blood Type Diet (I recommend it!). My skin cleared up, my brain cleared up, I slimmed up and put muscle on in my weight training class. It was great. I have been converting back to this diet after going off it for a couple years – I became very depressed when my mother passed away and I let my diet and health go.

I can tell you that through trial and error the best thing I have found for skin is simply: watch your diet – dairy is a killer – drink lots of water, skip makeup when you can, exercise, wash your face at least once a day with a gentle cleanser, and find something to replenish the surface with.

Now as a wanna be sophisticated woman I use Kora Organic’s Noni Face oil.

IMG_4523

This can be purchased at Sephora for $68. It is not cheap. This is not a budget item.

I use this before bed after I cleanse and tone my face. I often wake up with a nice plump healthy completion. I first got a hold of this product through a trial size and I found that I really enjoyed the feel of it. The smell is not overwhelming and it pleasant. The oil is not too heavy and absorbs fairly quickly. This would work under makeup for a plump dewy look! I personally only use it at night or first thing in the morning though.

The claim is that it is for all skin types- I think it is probably safe enough, but I would use less if you are oily like me. I of course still use too much… the instructions say to warm a few drop in the palms and apply. I use a dropper full and put it all over my face, neck, and the upper chest.

They claim this is for uneven texture, dullness, and uneven skin. I cannot personally say this does all of that, but I would guess it does improve the skin. I can say my face is bright and moisturized. Sometimes to pamper myself I apply it with a cooled jade roller or gua sha tool. I use this to massage and de-puff my face.

The oil is made up of: noni extract, rosehip oil, pomegranate oil, and sea buckthorn oil. All of these are known for their skin enhancing properties. This is also cruelty free! and certified organic 🙂

My bottle is emptying quickly and I do not look forward to having to spend another $68. I do like this product, I would use it again, I think the lovely reviews that this product and Miranda Kerr’s other products have merit. I will however be trying out some cheaper alternatives.. Experiment time!

IMG_4527If you want to give your skin a boujee pick-me-up then this is your oil. I really think this oil has given my skin a healthy glow and keep it hydrated. I have a hard time with topical hydration and I’m sure this will be an ever evolving journey. I look forward to trying new thing and revisiting old favorites.

fun note! I am not using any filters in the selfie – just good old glow oil and great lighting haha! My picture will not be as polished as the paid bloggers because.. well…I’m not. I’m not being asked to tell y’all about this and I probably never will. I’m just here to tell you my experiences and hope y’all can relate 🙂

Let me know what you think!

Hey!

SO I finally got around to trying out the Brown Sugar palette and the After Shock lippie.

LURV THEM!

The lippie is super soft and has a really light texture while delivering vibrant color. It is also fairly long lasting. After Shock is a mauvy pink only bright. I think mauvy is the word…. Anyways I cannot wait to try other colors! This color is great and works with my day to day look and a night time look.

As for the eyeshadow – I think the formula is smooth and well pigmented. I use the Fenty Pro Filt’r eye primer and let me just say… that shit STICKS. I have to dab and smooth it out with my fingers, let it dry, and then blend fast. My Urban Decay Naked Basics was really hard to blend out with this primer for some reason, but the colourpop one blends so nicely. WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER BITCH haha

Brown Sugar has replaced my Naked Basics old and very used self.

I put the primer, eyeshadow, and my crazy $4 elf fake lashes, to the test.

I was playing with the palette and testing my skills with applying lashes when my friend called and invited me out. The following picture is me with only my eyes done so don’t judge me haha

IMG_4511

OHKAYYY you can judge me a little 😛 I think it looks pretty decent haha

The lashes are SO DRAMA. I love / hate them. Everyone had a pretty good laugh over them, but I also received positive feedback. I will attempt more…I did manage to lose this pair though. I glued them on with the Sonia Kashuk eyelash glue from Target and it held well. I peeled them off around 7:30 this morning. I do not know where I left them… someone might run into a spider looking creature soon… For $4 I recommend getting them and having some fun! They do look cheap, but the price is right for learning or costume wear.

I fell down on the job and did not get a pic with full makeup on, but thats ok because the main focus is the eyes. I went on about my business and woke up this morning with full eye makeup. Fenty makes a dang good primer y’all.

IMG_4513 (1)

It’s a little faded, but it can pass as light day makeup haha

I nabbed a $3 elf mascara at the grocery this morning on the way home  – Mineral Infused Black Mascara. I put it on in place of the falsies. I think I like the other elf mascara better, but this is pretty dang good for such a price. Of course that is the lovely After Shock lipstick finishing off my next day makeup look.

Overall I’m really impressed with all of these products. The only expensive one is the Fenty, but its a decent amount and a little goes a long way. I highly recommend y’all give these a try! Or try different colors and palettes and let me know what you think!

The skincare line I’m trying with ColourPop is working out pretty well still and I think I would purchase a few of them in their normal sizes.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting! I love hearing your thoughts 🙂 this is a really fun project for me and I hope you get some joy out of it too.

OHKAY

So, I have heard of the makeup line ColourPop, they are owned by SEED Beauty which also owns Kylie Cosmetics and KKW Beauty. ColourPop is LA Based, carried in Ulta, and affordable. I have heard some people RAVE about them, but I never felt the compelled to actually try them out.

Until now….

I’m on the search to break my Sephora habit and broaden my knowledge. This has lead me to get out of my comfort box haha

I hopped onto Colourpop.com about a week ago and started poking around. First of all: I was floored by the prices. Second: The range of products. I actually thought they only made eyeshadow! What rock have I been living under!? You can do a full face with them!

Then I stumbled upon their sister site Fourth Ray. This is a “clean” line of skincare. Perfect because I just ran out of my Caudalie foaming cleanser (p.s. I am sad to see they lost their cruelty free stamp)

ColourPop is cruelty free!

I snapped up the travel kit that includes: Keep Clear Clarifying Tonic, AM to the PM Gel Cleanser, BFD Cleansing Oil, & The Lightweight Hydrator. Plus a cute bag! Total – $20.00

They all smell pleasant and so far seem really gentle on my skin. I haven’t used the oil to clean makeup off yet, but I do not see why it would not work.

The gel is effective, but so far unremarkable. That is A-ok with me 🙂 I don’t need anything fancy to cleanse my face.

The tonic smells like tea tree oil which explains the “clarifying” claims. Now I use Thayer’s witch hazel as a toner normally, but I do like this one because I feel like it might actually help me control my oil and blemishes a little better. Too soon to know for sure though.

I’ll keep y’all updated on the cleansing oil – But I liked it when I tried it. It is not super messy and I thought it felt nice on my skin.

The hydrator is odd. BUT I like it. It is very light and not a cream. Its a milky liquid that gushes out of the tube so be careful haha There is no grease or oil either. It coated my skin nicely, but I feel almost a tacky feeling after. I have not felt my skin rage and produce a wave of oil after applying it either. My skin needs hydration, but rebels against it most of the time.

SOOOO I have to say I will probably give some of these full size products a go!

The other things I grabbed: Lippie Stix in After Shock $5.50

An eye palette – Karrueche X ColourPop in Brown Sugar $12.00

Will update on the makeup products later 🙂

(sneak peek – the lippie feeeeelllllsssss  ssssooooo sssoooofffttt)

That pink box is my new Function of Beauty – trying a new formula AND the limited Black shampoo color. It came way early so it’ll be a while before I can update on the change in formula.

Stitch Fix

Stitch Fix

Hey!

So about a month ago I took a chance and ordered my first Stitch Fix box.

For those of you who are not familiar with Stitch Fix: it is a clothing subscription company. You take a quiz to tell them about you and what you like or don’t like. They will continue throughout to show you pictures that you can say yay or nay to. There is a section to tell them about your measurements, body type, etc. It all boils down to giving the best info possible to your personal Stylist who hand picks 5 items to ship to your front door. You do not pay for anything you do not keep. There is a $20 dollar fee each box that is absorbed if you buy the box.

You can choose to receive luxury items or mid-level brands. I opted out of the luxury because I am on a budget. They also offer kids clothing now making this a company that can cater to the whole family. You can pick and choose what kind if items you want more or less of: i.e. shoes, outerwear, jewelry. You also pick your budget range – what are you willing to spend on certain types of items.

The box includes the five pieces, a return pre-paid bag, style suggestion cards, and a note from the stylist. You have a couple of days to decide and put the bag in the mail with any returns before you are charged.

I think this is a fantastic way to shop! Personally I hate clothes shopping because I get discouraged and tired quickly. I also pass over stuff I should try on, but don’t. This cuts that right out. My box had some items that I wasn’t keen on initially, but ended up appreciating. I had sent a note explaining what I was looking for and my lovely Stylist, Michelle, nailed it.

My box included: 1. Teeberry & Weave – Kayden Dot Stitch Pullover in Beige $64

  1. Market & Spruce – Hans Crochet Front Top in Black $58
  2. Liverpool – Betty Chambray Shirt in Light blue $64
  3. Bancroft – Tamara Bracelet Set in Silver $28
  4. Cosmic Blue Love – Callie Cuffed Skinny Pant in Olive $88

Now if you’re balking at the price…I did too. I took a leap here and it payed off. I have new staple pieces that are well made and will carry me for a while. There is a 25% discount for buying the whole box which played into me keeping everything – that was a whopping $75.50 on top of my $20 style fee. I did not plan to keep the bracelet or button up top because I have plenty of jewelry and a very similar top.

To justify some of this I cleaned my closet out. Like OUT. I’m down to basics, work out gear, and a couple lounge things. I said I wanted to upgrade my style and wardrobe and I did. In a month or so I’ll probably order another box. I have not set this to send me automatically, but to send on physical order. I can keep wasting money on clothes from Target that do not hold up, I can wander through Macys lost and buy stuff I regret, or I can spend around the same amount and get something quality and handpicked. I think for me right now it makes sence.

My first impressions were: “Oh God. Green pants…..”

Crochet…really?”

“LOVE THIS BUTTON UP! SO CUTE! WHY DOES IT LOOK FAMILIAR?”

& “I don’t know about this bracelet…feels cheap.”

Upon trying everything on and realizing that growing up means I have to wear some things I find a little on the boring side- Everything gets an A+ in the end.

The black top can be paired with color, the sweater will tone things down, the pants don’t make me look as fat as I thought they would AND they aren’t blue denim which I asked to avoid. The bracelet is cute and I ended up loving it while the denim shirt replaced the cheapo version I had hanging in my closet.

All in all I recommend Stitch Fix. There are a number of other businesses just like this one and I have not tried them. I mostly recommend giving this kind of shopping a try so if Stitch Fix doesn’t appeal to you then there are other options. It doesn’t hurt to try new things!

Here are pictures of my items:
