Kora Organics

Kora Organics

IMG_4504What is in a glow?

Well, for me, it is a mix of: Staying hydrated, eating clean, avoiding dairy and sugar, trying to get enough sleep, with hazel, and last but NOT least – Kora Organics Noni Glow oil.

I’ve struggled with loving my skin for a long time. My stepmom always told me I had good skin, but as a pimple covered, overweight, young teen, I did not believe her. With my hormones raging, never washing my face, not drinking enough water, and drinking whole milk, I had a pimple or six all the time. Of course looking back I know why I did and I know that my pimples were nothing compared to those of my friends. Oh well haha

I def had a subscription to ProActive…that stuff works! If you use it and don’t eat dairy…. hahaha I’m afraid of what might actually be in it now – the smell was so strong and it burned. I don’t think I would use it now.

At twenty-six I’ve embraced my skin and I just shake it off when a stray blemish or two pops up. I know dang well I ate that cheese! Or it is my time of the month- coming off years of birth control I am seeing a few more than I normally would. I feel it is worth it though, I feel better in general now.

I began to start seeing it differently when I was around twenty-two. At that point in my life I was sticking to the Blood Type Diet (I recommend it!). My skin cleared up, my brain cleared up, I slimmed up and put muscle on in my weight training class. It was great. I have been converting back to this diet after going off it for a couple years – I became very depressed when my mother passed away and I let my diet and health go.

I can tell you that through trial and error the best thing I have found for skin is simply: watch your diet – dairy is a killer – drink lots of water, skip makeup when you can, exercise, wash your face at least once a day with a gentle cleanser, and find something to replenish the surface with.

Now as a wanna be sophisticated woman I use Kora Organic’s Noni Face oil.

This can be purchased at Sephora for $68. It is not cheap. This is not a budget item.

I use this before bed after I cleanse and tone my face. I often wake up with a nice plump healthy completion. I first got a hold of this product through a trial size and I found that I really enjoyed the feel of it. The smell is not overwhelming and it pleasant. The oil is not too heavy and absorbs fairly quickly. This would work under makeup for a plump dewy look! I personally only use it at night or first thing in the morning though.

The claim is that it is for all skin types- I think it is probably safe enough, but I would use less if you are oily like me. I of course still use too much… the instructions say to warm a few drop in the palms and apply. I use a dropper full and put it all over my face, neck, and the upper chest.

They claim this is for uneven texture, dullness, and uneven skin. I cannot personally say this does all of that, but I would guess it does improve the skin. I can say my face is bright and moisturized. Sometimes to pamper myself I apply it with a cooled jade roller or gua sha tool. I use this to massage and de-puff my face.

The oil is made up of: noni extract, rosehip oil, pomegranate oil, and sea buckthorn oil. All of these are known for their skin enhancing properties. This is also cruelty free! and certified organic 🙂

My bottle is emptying quickly and I do not look forward to having to spend another $68. I do like this product, I would use it again, I think the lovely reviews that this product and Miranda Kerr’s other products have merit. I will however be trying out some cheaper alternatives.. Experiment time!

IMG_4527If you want to give your skin a boujee pick-me-up then this is your oil. I really think this oil has given my skin a healthy glow and keep it hydrated. I have a hard time with topical hydration and I’m sure this will be an ever evolving journey. I look forward to trying new thing and revisiting old favorites.

fun note! I am not using any filters in the selfie – just good old glow oil and great lighting haha! My picture will not be as polished as the paid bloggers because.. well…I’m not. I’m not being asked to tell y’all about this and I probably never will. I’m just here to tell you my experiences and hope y’all can relate 🙂

Let me know what you think!

OHKAY

So, I have heard of the makeup line ColourPop, they are owned by SEED Beauty which also owns Kylie Cosmetics and KKW Beauty. ColourPop is LA Based, carried in Ulta, and affordable. I have heard some people RAVE about them, but I never felt the compelled to actually try them out.

Until now….

I’m on the search to break my Sephora habit and broaden my knowledge. This has lead me to get out of my comfort box haha

I hopped onto Colourpop.com about a week ago and started poking around. First of all: I was floored by the prices. Second: The range of products. I actually thought they only made eyeshadow! What rock have I been living under!? You can do a full face with them!

Then I stumbled upon their sister site Fourth Ray. This is a “clean” line of skincare. Perfect because I just ran out of my Caudalie foaming cleanser (p.s. I am sad to see they lost their cruelty free stamp)

ColourPop is cruelty free!

I snapped up the travel kit that includes: Keep Clear Clarifying Tonic, AM to the PM Gel Cleanser, BFD Cleansing Oil, & The Lightweight Hydrator. Plus a cute bag! Total – $20.00

They all smell pleasant and so far seem really gentle on my skin. I haven’t used the oil to clean makeup off yet, but I do not see why it would not work.

The gel is effective, but so far unremarkable. That is A-ok with me 🙂 I don’t need anything fancy to cleanse my face.

The tonic smells like tea tree oil which explains the “clarifying” claims. Now I use Thayer’s witch hazel as a toner normally, but I do like this one because I feel like it might actually help me control my oil and blemishes a little better. Too soon to know for sure though.

I’ll keep y’all updated on the cleansing oil – But I liked it when I tried it. It is not super messy and I thought it felt nice on my skin.

The hydrator is odd. BUT I like it. It is very light and not a cream. Its a milky liquid that gushes out of the tube so be careful haha There is no grease or oil either. It coated my skin nicely, but I feel almost a tacky feeling after. I have not felt my skin rage and produce a wave of oil after applying it either. My skin needs hydration, but rebels against it most of the time.

SOOOO I have to say I will probably give some of these full size products a go!

The other things I grabbed: Lippie Stix in After Shock $5.50

An eye palette – Karrueche X ColourPop in Brown Sugar $12.00

Will update on the makeup products later 🙂

(sneak peek – the lippie feeeeelllllsssss  ssssooooo sssoooofffttt)

That pink box is my new Function of Beauty – trying a new formula AND the limited Black shampoo color. It came way early so it’ll be a while before I can update on the change in formula.

Impulse Buys

Impulse Buys

So after a job interview I decided to wander around Target last night. Of course I found myself on the make-up aisle and made a couple of impulse purchases haha.

  1. e.l.f. Flawless Finish Foundation in Snow (fair with pink undertones) $6
  2. e.l.f Sheer Tint Finishing Powder in Fair/ Light $6
  3. e.l.f Matte Lip Color in Tea Rose $3
  4. Physicians Formula Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent Pearl $12

I’m pretty satisfied with my picks. The e.l.f. products are things on my “to-try” list, but the Physicians Formula was a complete “as I walked past” grab. It was so shiny and pretty that I just had to! Also it was the last one and this Target needed to get on with re-stocking ASAP.

The foundation smells really good! I was so surprised, but I had heard Jeffree Star gush about the smell in this video    –  https://youtu.be/2reryH40uqM

I found it to go one easily and it does have this odd almost cooling feel as it goes on. The coverage is by no means full and it is pretty light weight. I put the powder over the liquid foundation and it helped add a little more umph. It also helped even out the tone because the color I picked is probably too light. I’m still on the fence with the shade – The Fenty I’ve been using seems a touch too dark now and I’ve always struggled with finding a match I felt confident with. I do not know how the foundation holds up all day yet, but I have a feeling it will do well enough. I’ll update on that later. This is not supposed to contain oil which I’m hoping will help me because I have oily skin.

I trust Jeffree’s review so def give it a look. I’ll go out on a limb and recommend this foundation. The shade choices aren’t bad and they even have the tone descriptions on the bottles, the smell is great, the texture is smooth and cool, and the price is great!

The finishing powder is pretty handy! It comes in a pretty silver compact complete with mirror and little sponge. I applied this with a brush, but the sponge is good for touch ups. I wore this powder in combo with the other powder I purchased all day it had a nice soft effect on my skin. It also soaks up my oils when I touch up during the day.

This can be worn alone or over the top of foundation as a finisher.

The smell is not unpleasant, but it is also not as mind blowing as the liquid. I totally reccomend it!

Ok, now the lipstick was odd. The texture is fine and smells like plastic. THE COLOR. OH MY GOD THE COLOR HAHAHAHAAHAH Ok I’m sorry..Its not that bad, but it is not great either. I was under the impression that “Tea Rose” was a mauvish color. It is really more of a purple mauve combo.

I laughed because the first time I put it on was in the poor lighting of a hotel room without a stitch of makeup to add color to my pale complexion. It was a bold, bold purply dead looking lip. I looked dead. It absolutely is not flattering alone and it still is almost ghostly when paired with full face. I can probably wear it if I’m intentional and it seems like they were trying for a 90’s throwback shade. I personally can see it being used as zombie makeup, but I’m being dramatic.

And the fun one! SHINY YAY! The Mineral Glow Pearls starts out with this pretty silvery shine and comes in a little plastic compact with a mirror and terrible brush. The smell is minimal and your run of the mill makeup smell. The top coating of the compact came off really shiny and silvery, but beneath is a nude color that gives a nice glow when applied. I wore this over my plain powder and it made my face a little shiny. Later I put on everything and this just gave my face a lovely glow and subtle highlight. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who needs a healthy glow boost alone or with makeup. My fair skin needs all the evening out and glowing help I can get right now because I’ve been off my normal diet and my skin is suffering for it.

New post pic 2pic of meee

The Mineral Pearls gave my face some glow and the pic is in poor lighting, but you can still see the little bit on my nose! haha

All in all I’m really happy with the purchases and the best part is – they didn’t break the bank.

Any tips or opinions welcome!!

Cruelty Freeeeee

Cruelty Freeeeee

Hey y’all! I stumbled upon this article from BH Cosmetics last night and I thought I would share it.

Cruelty Free is a growing trend in makeup and a lot of brands just haven’t caught up which is a real shame. I personally stopped using MAC years ago because they are not cruelty free and I never LOVED their products to begin with. If they step out of the stone-age I might give them another try.

The article lists some companies like MAC that have not stepped up yet and it also lists the companies that have like e.l.f. Cosmetics.

I know it seems trendy to be on the vegan and cruelty free train, but truth be told I think this is only the tip of the iceberg on questioning our products and the ethics of companies.

Here’s the deal: I personally think that if we have to test on people then we start to look at better ingredients ( NOT TO MENTION NO MORE ANIMAL ABUSE GUYSSSSSS!!!!)  Maybe more people will start to question the quality and what are they putting on their skin; the largest organ of the body that absorbs everything. Hey I know most of you already get this so I wont preach a whole lot. I still have a lot to learn about it anyways.

I also hope that on this path they will continue to move towards sustainability and environmentally friendly packaging.

Anyways I hope you enjoy the article! https://www.bhcosmetics.com/blogs/bh-blog/cruelty-free-makeup-the-next-major-beauty-trend?fbclid=IwAR2XC1SAq-Z4qwZeMpNsC1uxln1UhFFrMEaCmFNUdh1JpBDD5KbVKPE4YBo
